The series have started. The city is Hockey. We gather, we celebrate.
My couch sport is hockey. It's an old story of love and hate. I can go a whole season without listening to it and the next season completely addicted. It doesn't matter, when the playoffs start, I'm there.
Then, it is also an opportunity to see friends again. We make ourselves a dinner, we turn on the television, we chat and we celebrate, or not. My essentials for a successful Hockey evening?
1. Beer
This is not the kind of evening to discover food and wine pairings. Beer, anyway, is the alcohol of social and sporting evenings. It's friendly. Also, there are no more good reasons not to buy a local beer. Microbreweries abound in Quebec. They are good, there is something for everyone and you can find them everywhere. When you're watching hockey, it's not the time to get drunk on flavorless beers.
If you really want to make your friends happy… Get yourself a barrel from Boldwin . A barrel. Hello!
Not only does the New Deal Brewery offer delicious beers, but they also come from organic farming ! Perfect for Earth Month!
2. Food
Nachos, chips, wings, ribs… Boldwin even offers a list of recipes for your hockey nights! With us, our Nachos are popular: they are decadent!
However, there is a way to moderate the consumption of “mouth-artery”. For the past few months, my boyfriend and I have swapped the delicious and addictive chips for homemade popcorn. It is done in a saucepan with coconut oil and a little salt. Honestly, it's better than chips! I swear to you. Try. For more flavor, add seasoning . But come on , try!
3. People
Good people. It takes you those who love hockey, who have followed the entire season. Those who listen to this sometimes suddenly become diehards. Hockey is a religion. Once a year, we go into practicing mode and we go to high mass. Worse are those who are in a corner talking about everything except hockey. It takes you a Fern, that's a Paul Houde, the one who will give you all the possible statistics. Because all these beautiful people there, when the Canadians will score, it will scream! And that is exhilarating. That's what's beautiful about getting together in a gang to watch a sport: to vibrate.
4. Live
Hockey is streamed live. Otherwise, you lose the momentum. You lose all excitement. Superstitions no longer hold, it's already done.
Also, you don't want to look for the puck. The television should be big and high definition. THANKS. Good evening.
5. Superstitions
Have you got some? Personally, we should ideally wear an item with the effigy of the Canadiens, listen to the song Le But by Loco Locass , have our children sing it… There are also superstitions that are created during a few matches. For example, if the Canadiens win when I'm at my sister's house, I'll have to watch all the games at her house. In short, it continues!
No doubt, sport is unifying. It is stronger than us. It is our competitive spirit that meets our sporting spirit. The need to stand out, to be proud, and the need to come together, to be alike. I don't know about you, but for me it's the ideal combo for a successful Hockey evening. Because hockey is also "made in Quebec"!
