Essential oils according to Zayat Aroma

Zayat Aroma was founded by Mikaël Zayat, born in Cairo and living in Quebec for over 40 years. We recently spoke with his son, Éloï, director of the company, to discuss essential oils and the development of the Quebec company.

The story of Zayat Aroma

Zayat Aroma is a family business that has existed since 1985. The company has about twenty employees and is located in Bromont. The company offers a large selection of organic essential oils, unique aromatic synergies and professional diffusers made by a local glassblower. She also distills essential oils from Quebec, such as goldenrod, cedar, mint and hemlock.

Zayat Aroma products are now available worldwide including Japan, France, USA and Africa. With more than 400 resellers, including the Signé Local store , the company has developed mainly through word of mouth.

Tips for using essential oils

When we asked Éloï about his tips for using essential oils, he mentioned that clients can sometimes be lax in their use. Essential oils, even if they are part of natural products, are a concentrate of active molecules. They are therefore very powerful and should be used with caution.

Éloï strongly advises getting information before starting to use essential oils. “You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet, because you can find a lot of misinformation there. It is always best to cross-check with specialists like aromatherapists or naturopaths”.

To learn about the fabulous world of essential oils, he recommends going step by step and starting with diffusion. It is indeed a good introduction since it involves little risk. On the other hand, care must be taken with the external application of oils, as some of them can be irritating (like cinnamon or clove). Also, there is a maximum amount to use on the skin. It is also preferable to dilute them in a little vegetable oil or aloe gel before applying them.

The favorites of the moment

On the company's website, there are a multitude of essential oils from several countries. Difficult to navigate when you start. Éloï shared some of his favorites with us.

Mint is one of the essentials. It is especially appreciated for its freshness. It can be used as a trace on the tongue or by diluting a small drop in a spoonful of honey. It can also be applied to the temples to relieve the onset of a headache. However, you have to apply one or two drops and be careful of the eyes, because this oil is very strong.

Vetiver is another of his favorites. It is excellent for rooting and keeping focus. For its part, rosemary helps to stay focused. It also helps in letting go. It may be interesting to diffuse it during intense periods of work or study.

The company also offers essential oil synergies for diffusion and cosmetic use. Among these, we find the dental health product, one of Éloï's favorite products that he uses on a daily basis. A drop of the product is applied to the toothpaste for healthy gums and fresh breath.

The manitou has also been very popular lately. It is a hand sanitizer approved by Health Canada.

The next business challenges

These are not the projects that are missing at Zayat Aroma, which is in full expansion. Indeed, the company recently acquired land in front of the store. Éloï and his team have an 11,000 square foot expansion project. There will be a new building with a new warehouse, a space for distillation, a space for creation and even a museum on essential oils.

The company's goal is to educate customers about essential oils and provide them with a positive experience. Workshops will be offered in the new building. We even talked about a workshop where it will be possible to make cocktails with hydrosols.
