Samuel Joly, founder of La Lichée

Who are you? Why did you choose this field?

My name is Samuel Joly and I am the co-founder of La Lichée. I first did a technique in the field of physiotherapy. I always knew that one day I would like to have my own business. La Lichée is an opportunity that presented itself to me at university and I made the choice to embark, without really knowing where it would lead me. In fact, it was after tasting the famous butterscotch of Gertrude, the grandmother of one of the co-founders, that we decided to start the adventure of La Lichée.

What was the trigger that pushed you to go into business?

What pushed me to go into business is undoubtedly the desire not to have a routine job. What motivates me is the fact that each day is different from the previous one. In addition, being an entrepreneur, you face many challenges, and that's something I really appreciate.

What is the most memorable moment in your career as an entrepreneur?

The most significant moment in my career is when we made a change of premises and reached a level of automation for our production. Indeed, last year, we moved to a larger premises which has a lot of potential for our production. We are proud to have gone from the status of craftsmen to that of a small manufacturer.

What motivates you at work right now?

The creation of new products for 2023 is what is most motivating. Our team is overflowing with creativity, which allows us to have several projects to come. It also allows us to get out of our comfort zone!

What playlist accompanies your days these days?

When I do administrative work, I really like to listen to jazzy, lofi hip hop and chill hop music.

What is your next project/product/launch?

We just launched a new product for Christmas. This is a festive product that comes in handy with the holiday season. In addition, we have been working on a new product for more than two years for 2023. This novelty will stand out in the market and allow La Lichée to reach new consumers.

Looking back, would you have done anything differently?

I am very proud of my journey. On the other hand, I don't think I would have hesitated to automate production more quickly.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

One piece of advice I would give to someone just starting out is to embrace the different opportunities and challenges that come your way, while weighing the risks of these. Don't be discouraged quickly by the unexpected, because things often change. Moreover, in the field of agri-food, you have to go for it. The best advice I can give is to take a chance.

What is your wildest dream with the company?

One of my dreams was realized last year. It's about having a faster and automated production line that reduces repetitive movements and without added value to the team. The next dreams are on the drawing board, you will have to follow us to find out what happens next.

What have you learned from entrepreneurship? or What can we wish you for the future? 

Entrepreneurship has taught me to always be resilient in the face of the situations presented to me and that it is necessary to surround yourself with a solid team to move projects and the company forward. We can wish me to have the chance to continue to work with my current team and to make it grow.
