Interior design that follows eco-responsible principles, including decorative accessories, is growing in popularity these days. Whether we're talking about natural, recycled or sustainable materials, all sorts of processes are in place to protect the environment.
Although these are now fashionable, Audrey Bernier-Perron, founder of AUB&CO Interior Design Eco-Creations, has been applying them in her work for several years.
Sustainable development in the skin
Audrey has always had an eco-responsible vocation and her goal was to build a business in her image. “I dreamed of a company capable of standing out through its expertise in sustainable development. Having completed her studies in interior design, she started her business AUB&CO in 2010 with two components: the main component is dedicated to interior design and renovation projects, and a component of fashion and interior accessories. The name of the company is inspired by the principles to which it aspires: "AUB" comes from the word "dawn", which represents the beginning or the beginning of something, while "&CO" represents the "eco" side of the company, in putting forward ecology, as well as collaboration in the projects carried out by Audrey.
For the making of her fashion and interior accessories, Audrey puts forward the principle of recovery, for example by reusing upholstery velvet from local period furniture to create cushion covers and handbags. She wants to do everything she can to reduce waste and pollution: “Inspiration comes from everything we share on the planet; we must preserve our present. »
Slow living as a philosophy
In addition to implementing eco-responsible processes to the best of her abilities, Audrey's motto is slow living : “the idea is that it has to last over time. This includes prioritizing quality and sustainability, rather than quantity or speed of processes. She thinks about the future of the product at the time of its design.
It is also a way of life that she tries to share with her community: she inserts in her publications on social media several inspiring thoughts, which are not directly related to her services or her products, but which reflect her way of think. “Ecological projects are a way of thinking, it rises at all levels, whether personal, professional or otherwise. We must be respectful of everything and grow in harmony with our environment. She likes to share what makes her think, which could encourage others to learn. For her, being authentic is also about applying her philosophy in her day-to-day business.
Persevere to achieve your vision
Despite her desire to work in an eco-responsible way, Audrey had to learn to make compromises in the early days of AUB&CO, because at that time her clients were not so fond of this approach. For a long time, she thought about working for a large company, but instead decided to pursue her efforts. Her tenacity has paid off, because since 2018, Audrey has been able to observe a growing demand for this kind of service and potential clients are approaching her specifically to obtain services focused on natural and sustainable products. “The key in this is not to give up, to persevere, to believe in yourself. »
Audrey was also able to persevere in pursuing her studies: after beginning the process to obtain her Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the design, construction and operation of sustainable buildings in 2010, she finally obtained in 2019 his certification in Ecological Building Design from Solution Era.
